If you’re a mom today, chances are you’ve asked yourself at least one of these questions:

Screens are everywhere. Tablets, phones, TVs, educational apps, YouTube, games. We’re raising children in a world no previous generation of parents had to navigate. And that alone deserves a little grace.


Why Screen Time Feels So Heavy for Moms

Screen time isn’t just about devices; it’s about pressure.

Pressure to:

  • Protect our children

  • Not fall behind culturally

  • Keep the peace at home

  • Do what’s “best” according to everyone’s opinions

And somehow, all of that pressure lands squarely on moms.

The truth is, most of us aren’t asking “Should my child ever use screens?”
We’re asking, “How do I raise a good child, and keep my child safe in the middle of this?”

 

What the Bible Says (and Doesn’t Say) About Screens

The Bible doesn’t mention tablets or smartphones; but it does speak clearly about the heart, focus, and influence.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23

The goal isn’t perfect screen rules.
The goal is guarding our children’s hearts.

That looks different in every household, and that’s okay.


Shifting the Question That Changes Everything

Instead of asking:

“How much screen time is too much?”

Try asking:

“Is this helping or hindering my child’s heart, habits, and growth?”

This shift moves us from fear-based parenting to wisdom-led parenting.


Practical, Grace-Filled Ways to Handle Screen Time

1. Lead With Relationship, Not Rules

Rules matter, but connection matters more.

Children who feel heard are more likely to respect boundaries.
Before enforcing limits, ask:

  • “What do you like about this?”

  • “How does this make you feel?”

This opens the door for guidance instead of power struggles.


2. Set Rhythms Instead of Rigid Limits

Rigid rules often break under real life.

Family routines are more sustainable:

  • Screens after responsibilities

  • Screen-free mornings or evenings

  • Devices put away during prayer, meals, and Bible time

Rhythms teach balance, not rebellion.


3. Teach Discernment, Not Just Obedience

Our children won’t always be under our roof.

Ask questions like:

  • “Does this show honor God?”

  • “How does this make your heart feel afterward?”

This teaches kids to think spiritually, not just comply temporarily.


4. Pray Over What You Can’t Always Control

You can’t filter everything.
You can’t monitor every moment.

But you can pray.

“Lord, guard my child’s mind, heart, and eyes. Help them desire what honors You.”

Prayer reaches where rules can’t.


Letting Go of Mom Guilt

Here’s the hard truth most moms need to hear:

👉 You can do everything “right” and still have hard days.

God never asked you to be a perfect parent.
He asked you to be a faithful one.

Your consistency.
Your prayers.
Your example.
Your repentance when you mess up.

All of it matters.


Building a Simple Faith Rhythm at Home

One of the most effective ways to counter screen overload isn’t banning devices; it’s building stronger spiritual habits.

Even something as small as:

  • A short prayer

  • A spoken affirmation

can ground your children in truth.

But Scripture offers us a deeper, more lasting approach: teaching our children to trust God in the middle of fear.

The Bible reminds us that fear is not something to be ignored, but something to bring before God.

“When I am afraid, I will trust in You.” — Psalm 56:3

Teaching children how to trust God when they’re afraid is one of the most valuable spiritual foundations we can give them.


Why Children Experience Fear

Children’s fears are real; even when they seem small to adults. Their world is full of things they don’t yet understand, and their emotions are still developing.

Common fears include:

  • Being alone or separated from parents

  • Bad dreams or nighttime anxiety

  • Fear of new situations (school, social settings)

  • Fear of making mistakes or disappointing others

  • Fear of being bullied or mocked by peers
  • Fear of being rejected

Instead of dismissing these fears, Scripture teaches us to acknowledge them and redirect our children to God’s truth.


What the Bible Teaches About Fear

God never shames fear; He replaces it with truth.

The Bible consistently reminds us:

  • God is present

  • God is powerful

  • God is trustworthy

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

When children learn this early, fear no longer has the final word; faith does.


How to Teach Your Child to Trust God When They’re Afraid

1. Acknowledge the Fear

Let your child know it’s okay to feel afraid. Avoid phrases like “There’s nothing to be scared of.” Instead say:

“I see that you’re scared. Let’s talk to God about it.”

This builds emotional safety and spiritual awareness.


2. Pray Scripture Out Loud Together

Children learn faith best when they hear it spoken.

Simple prayer example, based on Isaiah 41:10:

“God, You are with me. You are bigger than my fear. I trust You.”

Speaking Scripture aloud helps children replace anxious thoughts with God’s truth.


3. Teach Short, Memorable Bible Verses

Children remember what they repeat.

Verses like:

  • “The Lord is with me.” (Psalm 118:6)

  • “God is my helper.” (Hebrews 13:6)

Children learn trust by watching you.

When they see you pray instead of panic, trust instead of worry, they learn that God is a safe place; not just an idea.

Hey there, fellow parents!

Today, I’ve got a story to share that’s equal parts hilarious and humbling – and it all starts with my adorable trio of kiddos: the twins (Daniel & David) and their younger brother (Eni).

Picture this: bustling through life as a mom of twins plus one, I was pretty convinced I had this whole parenting gig down pat. After all, I’d mastered the art of mummying three boys with ease – or so I thought.

But here’s the plot twist: amidst all the chaos and cuddles, I failed to notice that my youngest, the non-twin wonder, was feeling a little left out. Yep, you heard that right – I was unwittingly neglecting my own child!

Now, before you start gasping in horror, let me explain. See, everywhere we went, my twins seemed to steal the spotlight effortlessly. Whether it was at gatherings, school events, or even just a trip to the grocery store, all eyes were on my dynamic duo. And in the midst of all the chaos, my poor little singleton was left feeling like the third wheel.

Here’s where the real kicker comes in – I had absolutely no clue this was happening. Nope, not a single inkling. It wasn’t until one fateful family session – you know, those designated times where we attempt to have meaningful conversations amidst the chaos of sibling squabbles and spilled juice – that the truth came tumbling out.

There I was, doling out sage advice on sharing and playing nicely, when out of the blue, my baby drops the bombshell: “Mom, Daniel and David already get all the attention everywhere we go! It feels like the whole world already has their back, so I need to have my own back!”
Not Kidding when I say, my eyes welled up with tears. Talk about a wake-up call! In that moment, I realized how strangers would ask me dozens of questions about the twins, while we were out and about, and I would go on and answer without saying much about my sweet singleton because they didn’t ask! I did this unconsciously but imagine how a child must feel with this happening always.
Eni’s candid confession sparked a much-needed conversation about inclusivity and empathy within our family. It reminded me that while parenting is a whole lot, it’s crucial to tune in to each child’s unique needs and feelings – even if they’re not the loudest ones in the room.

So, fellow parents, let this be a gentle reminder to keep your parental radars finely tuned. Take a moment to really listen to your kids, to validate their feelings, and to create space for them to express themselves freely – even if it means facing some uncomfortable truths along the way.

And hey, let this be a reminder when next you see a family with twins, to also acknowledge the other sibling(s) that isn’t a twin.

 

Let’s not forget to inject a healthy dose of humor and humility into the parenting journey. After all, we’re all just doing our best to raise tiny humans without completely losing our sanity, right?

 

So, here’s to embracing the ups and downs, learning from our mistakes, and raising a tribe of happy, well-adjusted kiddos who know they’re loved – even if they’re not the ones stealing the show.

Now that she’s a mom, she goes out of her way to make sure her family has the best time during Easter. Everything has to be perfect.

Now that she’s a mom, she goes out of her way to make sure her family has the best time during Easter. Everything has to be perfect.

Well… things didn’t go as planned.

David, her 4-year-old, refused to wear his shoes. Meanwhile, John, her 2-year-old, spilled juice on his shirt ten minutes before they had to leave. In the chaos, she completely forgot to read the Easter scripture she had bookmarked. After handling all the mess, they snapped a few cute photos for Instagram, barely made it to church, and by the time they got back home, Charity felt exhausted and empty—like they had celebrated Easter… but missed Jesus.

Later that night, Jonathan, her oldest, asked,

“Why do we celebrate Easter again? Is it just because of church and candy?”

Whew. Right in the gut.

That moment made her pause.

She realized Easter wasn’t about doing all the things. It was about doing what matters—and making sure Jesus isn’t just part of Easter, but the center of it. She admitted to herself that she had been overcomplicating it. Easter didn’t need to be a big production. It just needed to be intentional.

Are my kids actually getting what Easter is really about?

Yes, the cute family photos are great, and I’m definitely here for a chocolate bunny or two. But more than anything, I want my kids to really know Jesus—like know why He died and what it means that He’s alive. Not just for church… but for them.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the Easter “things”—outfits, baskets, egg hunts, and trying to get everyone to sit still for church. But when the day ends, don’t we all just want to know that our kids get it? That they’re walking away knowing Jesus, not just knowing the holiday?

So how do we actually bring Jesus into it all… not just on Sunday morning, but into the everyday after all the festivities? Here’s what’s been helping in our home (and it’s nothing fancy). But we are being more intentional, and it’s made a big difference. Here are a few things that have helped:

1. Start with a Simple Prayer

You don’t need to preach a sermon over breakfast. Just start the day with a quick, honest prayer. Nothing long. No pressure. Just a moment in the morning where we say something like:

 

🗣 “Jesus, thank You for loving us enough to die for us – and thank You for rising again. Help us love like You today.”

 

That one small prayer can change the whole atmosphere of your home.

2. Have Real, Everyday Conversations

Kids connect through curiosity. I’ll throw out random questions like, “If Jesus came to eat dinner with us tonight, what would you want to tell Him?” or “Why do you think Jesus dying on the cross is a big deal?” Kids say the funniest and sometimes deepest things. These conversations plant seeds that grow; it opens the door to talk about who Jesus really is.

3. Make Prayer a Family Rhythm

This one right here changed the game. When prayer became something we did together (not just something Mom rushed through before bedtime), it helped us all slow down and connect—to each other, and to God. It’s something we now do together, when things go well, and when they don’t. We pray before school, after meltdowns, and when someone’s feeling anxious. And let me tell you—those little moments add up. They build a foundation of faith our kids actually feel.
Honestly, I was tired of feeling stuck when it came to praying as a family. I didn’t always know what to say, how to keep the kids engaged, or how to make prayer feel real and relevant for them.
